Why go to a defensive driving at all?

When you receive a ticket, points are assessed on your driving record you may be ordered to attend defensive driving school by a court of law. Often, this attendance will prevent the points from appearing on your official driving record. Some insurance companies give discounts after you successfully complete a driver improvement school course. Another reason to attend a defensive driving school is to become a more responsible driver, lower your chances of being involved in an accident (defensive driving school is sometimes assigned as part of the penalty associated with drinking and driving), and lower your chances of getting another ticket.

How quickly can I finish this course?

The courses are designed to take an amount of time equivalent to a traditional in-class defensive driving school. The great thing about this course, however, is that you work at your own pace. No one is sitting over your shoulder making you slow down or speed up. Everyone reads at different speeds and this program will allow you to proceed at your own pace and there is no time maximum for the program. The average completion time varies.

How long does it take to get the certificate?

Because of security reasons, it is impossible for you to print your own certificate, so the original certificate must be sent directly from our office to you. You can also request than an additional certificate copy be mailed to you. When you enroll, you may choose for regular mail or expedited service.

Does the course cost anything?

Unfortunately, there is a cost to attend the defensive driving school. The tuition will cover all elements of the course including immediate access to the site and the completion certificate. Regular in-class defensive driving schools charge similar fees. Defensive driving schools are privately operated businesses and whether you sit in a class or choose this online program, you will need to pay for it.

How can I pay for the course?

Students who enroll for the four (4) hour program will pay $29.99 in tuition fees. Students who enroll for the eight (8) hour program will pay $50.00 in tuition fees. Tuition fees may be paid by credit card, (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) or any bank check card with a credit card logo on it, personal check, or money order. After you fill out the registration form, you will be linked to a completely secure credit card page where you pay quickly and effortlessly. The site is encrypted to make your on-line purchase safe. You can also select a pay by check option, start the course, and mail the check later. You decide.

The On-Line Traffic School requires that the student make a payment arrangement during enrollment for the course, but does not require payment until the successful completion of the program. In the case where a student graduates, but has not paid for the program, their completion certificate will be held until payment has been received.

What if my deadline for completion of defensive driving school has passed?

Contact your Court or the State for instructions regarding extension of your due date. Alabama Online Defensive Driving cannot extend your due date.

How do I register for this course?

Registration for this course is quite simple. You can click HERE and be taken to the online registration page. Just complete all the appropriate fields and you can get started right away. You may also call us at 877-972-4665 during normal business hours (Central Standard Time), 8:00AM–11PM M–F, 10:30AM–7:00PM Sat, 10:30 AM–6:00PM Sun to register on the phone. Either way, it just takes minutes and you will be able to start the course immediately.

Can I use someone else's computer or Internet service?

That is what makes this course so convenient! You can work from home, the office, a friend or relative's house, your local library, or you can even rent time on the Internet at a copy/computer center. Whatever computer you use, you simply need Internet access. You can even start on your own computer and then finish on another or switch back an forth between computers! *This program also works with WEBTV.

Must I complete this course in one sitting?

Alabama Online Defensive Driving is designed for the person who does not have a lot of time. There are two courses to choose from: a four (4) and eight (8) hour. The four hour course consists of nine (9) sections and the eight (8) hour course consists of fourteen (14) sections. The computer will record the section you have completed. You can log on and off as many times as you wish until you complete the program. You can also do the entire course in one sitting... it is up to you.

What if I have no e-mail address?

Do not worry if you do not have an e-mail address, as one is not needed to take this course. Any correspondence can be directly printed off the program or be done via mail or telephone. On the registration form under e-mail address, simply click on the no e-mail button, if you do not have one. Or you may also use a friend's e-mail address if you wish.

I've already enrolled. How do I get back into the program?

If you have already enrolled, you have a username and password. You may reenter those codes on our home page where instructed as many times as necessary to access and complete the program. If you have forgotten or lost your username or password, give us a call at 877-972-4665.

I just got knocked off line in the middle of a section. What do I do now?

Many Internet users are knocked off line on occasion. This may result from a lost Internet connection, another call interrupting your connection if you are on a single line with call waiting, or simply because your own computer crashes. Remember, as you complete each section of the course, your progress is logged. Completion of chapter one, for example, cannot be lost if your answers are submitted to the system and graded on screen. Being knocked off line at that point would bring you back to the start of the next chapter, it will not delete chapter one. Our website is unable to control your Internet connection and inactivity on your part will not result in our system knocking you off line. Any activity requirements will be on the part of your Internet service provider.

I use AOL and I keep getting knocked off line. What should I do?

If you are using AOL as your Internet service provider, you will have activity requirements while online. During some of the longer sections requiring more reading, there is a chance AOL will knock you off-line unless you remain interactive with AOL. Do not leave the screen alone for any great length of time... remain interactive with the screen.

Are there any special computer or download requirements to participate in the course?

There are no videos to download in our program and no special computer requirements. If you are on our website viewing this screen, you should be able to enroll and complete the course without a problem.

What happens if I fail the final? Can I take it again?

If necessary, you may take the final repeatedly until you pass without having to pay a retake fee. If you have any further questions please contact us.

What are your office hours?

Normal business hours are (Central Standard Time), 8:00AM–11PM M–F, 8:00AM–7:00PM Sat, 10:30 AM–6:00PM Sun. The Alabama Online Defensive Driving website is available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How do I receive course credit?

Credit is awarded after the student demonstrates that they have participated in and interacted with the program and they have comprehended the course content. Students are tested on their knowledge of the course curriculum through a series of quizzes and tests that must be scored with a passing grade of 80% or higher. Only after the student has successfully completed the quizzes and test, will they achieve graduation.

Interaction with the program is modeled in credit hours. The program is available at all times via the internet and may be completed in one sitting, or multiple sittings depending on the student's personal schedule. The course is designed to accommodate students who need either four or eight hours of course credit.

How does the grading work?

Students are graded automatically by the program each time they are tested or quizzed. They must score 80% or better in each topic in order to proceed to the next section of the course.

Students are updated on their course progress at the completion of each section. This progress is indicated after they have successfully passed a quiz, and the final exam.

Students are asked to fill out an evaluation of the program at course commencement. This valuable student feedback allows us to make sure that our course objectives are being met.

What is the cancellation/refund policy?

In the unlikely event that a student is unable to complete the program, cancellation of their enrollment shall be granted. Students will be entitled to a full refund of their program tuition if cancellation occurs within 72 hours of enrollment. After 72 hours, the student will be entitled to receive a partial refund, equivalent to 50% of their paid tuition fee. Special circumstances may apply and will be considered by the managing body of Alabama Online Defensive Driving on a per-case basis.

Can I be expelled from the course?

Upon registration, the student will verify under penalty of perjury that they alone will be participating in the course without any outside assistance. At no time will course credit be issued if the student receives any help whatsoever. Upon enrollment, the student will answer several security questions that will verify their identity throughout the course. A student will be disqualified from the course for attempting to circumvent the time requirements, logging in with false information, participating in the course while other browser windows are open, or utilizing other reading material not contained in the course during testing. Disqualifications of any kind may be reversed at the school's discretion. Any attempts to circumvent the program and its security measures will waive all student's right to a refund of course tuition.

Will my access codes to the course expire after a certain time?

Students are welcome to log on and off the course at anytime. The student is and will be held responsible for the satisfactory, unassisted completion of the course. There is no mandatory completion deadline set by The On-Line Traffic School, Inc. but we request that students complete their program at least 10 days in advance of their due date, so they may receive their certificate of completion on time. If the student needs their certificate to be rushed, rush delivery is available for an additional cost.

What if something goes wrong?

Alabama Online Defensive Driving is available at all times, no matter what your schedule is, or what unforeseen circumstances may arise. We cannot grant extensions or guarantee grace periods on your behalf with your issuing Court or jurisdiction. If you cannot graduate the program due to circumstances beyond your control, we ask you to contact your Court or issuing agency immediately to secure an extension of your due date.
